Welcome to Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County's Youth Empowerment Program (YEP)!

Mission

Fostering Youth to Empower their Futures.

Vision

An inclusive community led by values that uplift all.  YEP! is about helping you find your power. This program is for YOU. Your choice to join YEP! let's us know you are committed to doing the work it takes to discover and use your power to direct your future.  YEP! is also about FUN!  We build fun into everything we do in a safe and respectful way.

Our process of fostering empowerment in youth is guided by 3 ideas:

  • Self-Discovery of passions, values, and character
  • Exploration through decision-making and accountability
  • Experience in pursuing passions and creating action plans for the future

What can you expect from YEP!

  • Respect for who you are.
  • A safe environment to discover, explore, and experience.
  • Accountability for actions.

What YEP! expects from teens

  • Show up! Be on time, participate, and be fully present (phones are rarely part of YEP!).
  • Help keep the program a safe place for all.
  • Consent is key - always respect personal boundaries.
  • Use respectful language.
  • Follow directions from adult leaders and volunteers.
  • Communicate with us when you feel unsafe, unwell, or need support.
  • Stay with the group; adult leaders must always know where you are.
  • Do not bring guns, knives, tobacco, vaping, or anything illegal.

Accountability

Choices matter.  If actions are harmful or disrespectful, consequences may include:

  • Being sent home.
  • Removal from the program.
  • Contacting law enforcement.

Expectations for Guardians

  • YEP! is a teen centered space: guardians are included for special events
  • Stay connected and provide feedback to help support your teen's needs.
  • Invest time to understand the program and ask questions.
  • Note: YEP! leaders are not specifically trained for extensive behavior management but will discuss appropriate accommodations.
  • Teens are expected to attend CORE events that build the foundation of the program.

Disciplinary Actions (may include)

  • Teen being sent home.
  • Teen barred from future YEP! events/activities
  • Guardian held responsible for property damages.
  • Youth released to law enforcement for significant violations of law.

Guardian Consent

I acknowledge receipt of this document and agree to all items below:

I give permission for my child to participate in Habitat's Youth Empowerment Program! (YEP!) and communicate with staff via Habitat program phone.

I give permission for Habitat to provide transportation and for my child to participate in third-party programming.

I will pick up my child on time at the close of each event or ensure alternate transportation.

If someone other than myself picks up my child, I will notify staff in advance.

I consent to my teen receiving texts and emails from official YEP! program phones and email addresses.


Waiver and Release of Liability

Release: Habitat is not responsible for accidents, injuries, or damage that my occur while participating in YEP!. I waive and release Habitat and its affiliates from any related liability or claims.

Insurance: Habitat carries limited medical liability insurance.  Families are responsible for adequate personal insurance.

Media Release: Habitat has the right to use photographs, video, and audio recordings of participants for program-related purposes.

Governing Law: This release is governed by North Carolina law.
